Many unsavory marketing types have unfortunately made others think that self promotion is something to be avoided. The problem is that most of us hear the words self promotion and feel a little queasy.

Advertise your business or your services on Craigslist, even though it's true that Craigslist has earned quite a terrible reputation for itself lately. You may find it useful to do some extra reading before posting an ad for your services because there are a few tricks and tips for better results. This is just a place for posting free ads, and many millions of people visit it every day. You will need to make your ad standout which begins with the headline- you must stop them cold. The number one rule with advertising is to test, and you can test as many ads as you like but not all at once. Be genuinely enthusiastic about the products and services you are promoting, even (especially) when they are your own. Other people tend to take notice when they see someone who really believes in what he's doing. It's true that you can attract people with your energy and spirit, and that's what we're talking about here. Some people have built fortunes mainly on their great enthusiasm for what they were promoting. You must have some kind of feeling for what you're promoting otherwise it fizzles.

A plethora of scammers hasn't kept the site from maintaining its top status in the world of online bulletin boards. This is one place where the power of the headline has to hit the nail on the head. Social media has grown up and that's a good thing for business because you have more available to you now. You also need to have LinkedIn, Google+ and Pinterest profiles because the more places you can set up a profile for your business the better. If you want to use LinkedIn, for instance, there are definitely right and wrong approaches so get some education about. What you will discover, if you research it, is that doing businesses is not the same across the social media board. So take advantage of those sites that fit your business model and get started.

People love winning things in contests, so create some for your business and use social media for exposure. Have a contest for "Likes" on Facebook and for new followers on Twitter and put everybody who likes you or follows you into a hat to win a prize. Design your contests with the component of landing people on your main website. Social media takes time unless you can buy tools to help you do things such as apps for driving traffic, etc.

Once you've identified the issues with self promotions, then simply tackle it head-on. Look at your options, and it's either find a way to deal with this or go back to work at your regular job. Don't become a perpetual student of self improvement on the same subject - face what you need to face.
